Dry cleaning is any cleaning process for clothing and textiles using a chemical solvent other than water. It is used to clean fabrics that degrade in water, and delicate fabrics that cannot withstand the rough and tumble of a washing machine and clothes dryer. It can eliminate labor-intensive hand washing. Despite its name, dry cleaning is not a “dry” process; clothes are soaked in a liquid solvent. Tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene), which the industry calls “perc”, is the most widely used solvent.
All modern garments require a Care Label which lists not only what it is made from but also washing and drying instructions. Our dry cleaning professionals check each lable upon arrival and clean each garment according to its individual Care Label.

When a garment is cleaned in water, the yarns swell causing the clothing to receive more agitation in the washing process. In dry cleaning this dynamic does not occur, therefore dry cleaning actually prolongs the life of your garment.
Occasionally, manufactures do not select a stiffening interfacing that is compatible with the fabric on the shirt. Therefore, shrinkage occurs causing a ‘puckering’ effect. Although wet washing can aggravate and accelerate these imperfection, dry cleaning will not produce these side effects.
